Woes of Gen Y

Today I received yet another rejection from a job that I applied for. I’ve lost exact count but that adds to the 20 (or so) knock-backs that have appeared in my inbox since the end of last year. I figured that at least those businesses had the courtesy to let me know of my failure, as opposed to the 30 other applications I sent through which have seemingly vanished into the unknown. Seriously, if I’m not good enough, just tell me so.

Yes, we’re in the middle of a crisis and Gen Y are hitting it hard but there is no excuse for impoliteness and misleading graduates (especially), into thinking they have a chance when they really don’t. I can only vouch from experience but I don’t understand the motive behind advertising vacancies with no obligation to hire.

I’m certain that a handful of the 30-something businesses that I now realize I wasted my time applying to, continued to re-advertise the positions for which they never got back to me about. Again, if I’m not good enough for the job, just let me know for goodness’ sake because I don’t want to be investing decent amounts of time convincing people why I am worthy of the opportunity when they couldn’t care less.

On behalf of young, university graduates, I’d like to say: we deserve better.
